Little Caesars Arena (Detroit Red Wings)

The newly minted Little Caesars Arena, which opened in 2017 and cost over $862 million to build, is home to the Detroit Red Wings who compete in the Atlantic Division of the NHL’s Eastern Conference.  The multi-purpose venue, which is also home to the NBA’s Detroit Pistons, is part of a downtown Detroit revitalization.  The area, called The District Detroit, encompasses multiple sports venues, plus residential and commercial properties making it a go-to area of the city for entertainment.  Restaurants and event space adjacent to the arena stay open all year long to continuously attract visitors to the area.

The Detroit Red Wings, who previously played their home games at Joe Louis Arena, was founded in 1926 and was originally known as the Cougars.  The Red Wings were one of the NHL’s original six teams, and through the 2020-2021 are the United States based team that has won the most Stanley Cups, racking up eleven championships during their long history. The franchise has had long streaks of great success, missing the playoffs only four times from the 1931-32 season to the 1965-66 season and then missing the playoffs only twice from 1983-84 to 2015-16. The Red Wings have stayed true to their roots, having one of the most consistent logos, the winged wheel, for almost nine decades.
