After opening in mid-December of 1996, Bridgestone Arena became the home ice of the Nashville Predators for the 1998-99 season. The arena, which is located in downtown Nashville, cost $144 million and took approximately two years to build. The arena can be converted into the 5,145-seat Music City Theater, used for theater concerts and Broadway-style shows.
The Nashville Predators are members of the NHL’s Western Conference Central Division and were founded in 1998. Although the Predators haven’t captured a championship, they have battled for the Stanley Cup in the finals as recently as 2017. The Predators are affiliated with the minor league teams Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL) and Florida Everblades of the ECHL. Although a young franchise in comparison to some of the NHL’s old guard, the team and fans have developed some traditions, like members of other local professional teams acting as hype men prior to games to get the crowd going, and a section of fans who have annotated their area of the stands as, “The Cellblock,” and who claim to be the loudest section of fans in the league.
